The San Basilia shelter for unmarried mothers in Hogar de la mujer offers a home and provides training to help these women in difficulty look after their children and meet the future. This period of hospitality prepares them to overcome the grave social and economical difficulties in which they find themselves.

It also shelters and provides a home for their children, giving them a school education and an adequate standard of living.

Buildings in these two villages have been restructured and refurbished as small clinics for the local population. The Medical team from the Ermanno Artale Medical Centre periodically visit these clinics to deal with emergencies and carry out prevention - such as vaccination - and nutrition education, targetted above all at children.

This village is located in the Peruvian Amazon, and here Senzaconfini has built a polifunctional health clinic in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross.

The centre consists of:

Doctors' surgery
Dental surgery
Laboratory for clinical analyses
Pharmacy

This Health Centre also has an ambulance to transport serious cases to the nearby hospital of Tingo Maria , (about 200 kms. away) or to Huanuco (approx. 300 kms).

We installed and setup a radio station called "Luz y Sonido" on medium, short wave and FM frequencies. This radio station transmits information and ethical and religious education, and in particular prevention in the health field. This latter programme also provides lessons and explanations of hygiene and health.
